Village of Iola

“Collectively upholding our relevancy for today, responsiveness for tomorrow; readiness in the future to address the needs of our entire community.”

The present Village of Iola was the homeland of Redbird, and Indian Chief, brother of Chief Waupaca, after whom our county was named. Redbird’s daughter was Princess Iola, who, according to legend, left her native land to live as the wife of Chief Syracuse in her ancestral home in New York State.

The first white settlers erected a saw mill at the head of a mill pond in the 1850's, followed by a post office and Methodist church. The Village of Iola was formerly incorporated in 1892. The immigration of the Norwegian ancestors took place between the 1860's and 1890's.

The Iola Old Car Show and Swap Meet put Iola on the map as the largest car show in the Midwest. Iola is rich in the natural beauties of wildlife, forestry and lake shores, making it a haven for outdoor enthusiasts.
